Manifest Destiny

The Story of The US Told In 141 Maps

The Project

Wikipedia provides its users with high-quality content for many topics. Yet most of the Wikipedia pages consist of static text and images.

This project is an attempt to show that the same content can alternatively be presented and explored in an interactive and more engaging way.

All content for this visualization is taken verbatim from the original Wikipedia page Territorial evolution of the United States.

Credits

This project builds on the amazing work that went into creating the original raster maps by Wikipedia User golbez.

Furthermore, this project was made possible by many contributors to Open Source projects like D3.js, QGIS, and many others.
